How much hay should a horse eat?
A healthy adult horse typically consumes 1.5–2.5% of its body weight in forage every day. A 1,000 lb horse needs about 15–25 lbs of hay daily, depending on workload, body condition, and pasture access. Easy keepers sit at the low end; hard keepers, broodmares, and horses in heavy work sit at the top.
